Harmony to the Eyes: Charting Palladio's Architecture from Rome to Baltimore
The George Peabody Library, 17 E. Mount Vernon Place
FREE
Follow this link for symposium program and registration information.

Beautifully illustrated books and maps from the 15th through the 19th centuries selected from the Laurence Hall Fowler Collection of Architectural Treatises and the George Peabody Library are featured in this exhibition, celebrating the birth of Italian architect Andrea Palladio in 1508 and his lasting legacy on building design, particularly in Baltimore. The display of approximately 75 objects includes a selection of first edition printed treatises and original prints, as well as relevant photographs, architectural models, and a computer reconstruction of pilgrimage routes recommended by Palladio in his two famous guides to Rome. These images brilliantly illustrate Palladio’s own dictum: “Build in such a manner and with such proportions, so that all the parts together may convey a sweet harmony to the eye of the beholders.” Organized by Homewood Museum and the Sheridan Libraries. For information about visiting the Peabody Library, call (410) 659-8179.
