Opening Reception:
Thursday, Jan. 4, 5 - 7
p.m. Homewood's 5th annual winter focus show explores
views of the pets and livestock that were part of early
Maryland's scenery, and especially of Homewood, the 1801 country
house of the Carroll family. It was curated by Johns Hopkins
students enrolled in the undergraduate seminar:
"Introduction to Material Culture: The Pet in Early America,"
co-taught during the fall '06
semester by Catherine
Rogers Arthur, curator of Homewood, and Bill
Leslie, a professor in the
Department
of History of Science and Technology.
The opening reception is
FREE, and features adoptable pets from the Maryland SPCA in
Homewood's wine cellar. Click here to let us know you're
coming!
The focus show, presented
in partnership with the Maryland
SPCA, is on view through March
31 as part of regularly scheduled Museum
tours, and is included in Museum
admission. Free Museum admission will be granted to
visitors who bring in an item from the SPCA's Animal Wish
List.

SPCA Meet adoptable pets in Homewood's wine cellar
from the Maryland SPCA's adoption center. Free with
Museum admission. Program continues on alternate Saturdays

Animals Could Talk: Animals in Folktale
Traditions Dr. Charles Camp, author, MICA art history
faculty member, and former Maryland State Folklorist.
Free with Museum admission.

Legacy: Evergreen Scholars at MICA An
exhibition of work by graduates of the Maryland Institute College
of Art whose training as innovative, creative, and successful
visual artists benefited from Evergreen scholarships, awarded
since 1965. Among the featured MICA alumni are Rita
Natarova ('02), Lauren Ross ('93), Colleen Ostrander ('95),
Nestor Topchy ('85), and Richard Cleaver ('77), whose work is shown at
right.

Tour Members of
the Landmark Society are invited to Homewood for a special
guided tour of the Museum's winter focus show, Feathers,
Fins, and Fur: The Pet in Early Maryland, with curator
Catherine Rogers Arthur, and several of the student-curators from
Catherine's fall undergraduate seminar, Introduction to
Material Culture. Enjoy refreshments in the wine
cellar before and after the tour, and meet and mingle with fellow
Landmark members and Museum staff.
