House Guests 2006

Evergreen's annual House Guests artist-in-residence series features two exhibitions by former artists-in-residence Amy Chan (summer '05) and Richard Torchia (summer '06).

House Lights and Furniture Music: treatments for a suite of shaded rooms
Philadephia artist RICHARD TORCHIA's series of provocative installations at Evergreen (see photo) -- using a range of both "period" and contemporary media -- provide opportunies for ambient experiences that re-animate the museum's historic rooms and the narratives they frame.

Views of the Mid-Atlantic
Brooklyn-based artist AMY CHAN's exhibition of goache landscapes comments on the homogenization of the East Coast, shown uniformly dotted with homes, fast food restaurants, and box stores.  Natural elements appear tamed and in danger of being taken over by our suburban environment.

PUBLIC PROGRAM

Meet the Artist, Nov. 19, 1-4 p.m.
Richard Torchia presents new installations, and explains his work using lenses, light, and sound to re-animate Evergreen House and its history.

Exhibitions and related programs are free with museum admission.

Follow the ArtWalk

Guided tours offered Fridays, Nov. 3, 10, and 17. Departs Homewood at noon; the BMA at 1 p.m.

On the Historic Homewood ArtWalk, discover points of historic and artistic interest between Homewood Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art.  This free and informative art trail -- presenting over 200 years of history in less than a quarter mile -- connects two significant collections of American decorative arts, both FREE to the public as part of the citywide Free Fall Baltimore program.

Take the ArtWalk self-guided!
Pick up a copy of the brochure at either Homewood or the BMA, or download a copy now!
